How many Lumens do you need in each room?
When striving for a comfortable and cozy home, the right amount of lighting is key. A crucial factor in choosing the right lighting for each room is the number of lumens. In this blog you can read exactly how many lumens you need per room to create the perfect ambiance anywhere in the house.
What is Lumen?
To determine the best amount of lumen for each room, you must first understand what lumen means. Lumen (lm) measures the amount of visible light output by a light source and therefore indicates brightness. The higher the lumen value, the brighter the light. Lumens measure the amount of visible light that a light source puts out and therefore are very important for creating the right ambiance and functionality in different rooms. What is connected to lumens, and just as important to the ambiance in the home, is the amount of lux (lx). Lux measures the brightness of lighting on a specific surface. Lux represents, the actual brightness of light in a specific location. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter, (lx = lm/ m2).

When choosing lighting for a room, it is important to consider both the number of lumens and the desired lux levels to achieve balanced and functional lighting.

Living Room
The living room is a place full of activity, from relaxing to spending time together. Combine main lighting with accent lights for a cozy and practical living space. Experiment with different light sources to match the specific needs of your living room.

Dining Room
In the dining room, it is important to create a good balance between general lighting for the entire room and focused lighting above the dining table. This creates a functional and cozy atmosphere, ideal for dinners and other dining room activities.

Kitchen
In the kitchen, a combination of general lighting, directional lighting for workspaces and any accent lighting is essential. This ensures a well-lit space in which to cook comfortably and safely.
Bedroom
In the bedroom, it is important to create a soothing ambiance with soft lighting, especially at night. Night lights with focused light for reading add functionality without disturbing the peacefulness. Dimmable lamps offer a lot of flexibility in the bedroom, making it easy to adjust the mood.

Bathroom
Good lighting in the bathroom contains general light, mirror lighting and accent lighting as needed. This makes for a well-lit space where relaxation is possible, but also allows daily routines to become effortless.
Office
In an office environment, good lighting is essential for a productive and comfortable workplace. Optimize light levels, reduce shadows, and add ambient lighting for a pleasant working environment.

Hall
The hallway generally does not need much light, but it is important to have enough light for safe passage. Adding accent lighting, such as a beautiful wall light or ceiling light helps with this, but at the same time can also help create a welcoming ambiance at the entrance to your home.
